Saturday Design Studio

The Architectural Foundation of San Francisco (AFSF) announces AFSF Design - Saturday Studio, a distance-learning workshop in sustainable design and architecture for high school students.

Participants will learn professional digital design tools, receive 1-on-1 mentoring with an architect or engineer, and create a portfolio of photo-realistic and video renderings of their original 3D designs.

This 6 week Studio is being offered on Saturdays, March 13 – April 17, 2021, 3 hours per week (9:30 am – 12:30 pm). Program cost is $500 with $250 due with registration.

In addition, every participant will be mentored by a professional architect or designer for a additional 1 hour session.

Drawing on the successes of our school-day, after-school and summer programs, our established curricula provide a dynamic, real-world project-based learning experience where students gain high-tech professional skills and insights.  As in all our programs, AFSF Design – Saturday Studio provides rigorous academic and professional experiences, providing youth with skills and inspiration to succeed in school, careers and life.

Interactive Instruction

AFSF Design – Saturday Studio offers interactive instruction on multiple 3D design software platforms used by professional architects, including Autodesk Revit and SketchUp. Through real-world design challenges, students will work individually and in collaboration to create and present advanced original designs.

Drawing on over 30 years of inspired educational programming, our professional teaching staff and volunteer architectural and engineering mentors provide students with direct instruction on software and design concepts, guidance on all project work, and certification of mastery of the technical tools.

Create a design portfolio of original designs. Useful for college applications.

The AFSF Design – Saturday Studio attracts students from around the Bay Area and across the globe.  All our students learn high-tech skills which they demonstrate through collaborative design projects, presenting to professional developers and developing a portfolio of original creative work they can use in applications to colleges and internships. Working collaboratively with diverse peers and engaging with professionals helps youth hone their interests and confidently envision themselves in a career.  Those who have struggled in traditional classrooms often find that success at AFSF gives them a more inspired view of their future.
