The Architecture + Youth Collaborative
is a collection of people from organizations in the
public and private sector who have a common passion
for expanding young people's awareness of the relationship between
design and the built, cultural and natural environment. Through teaching,
mentoring, displaying and/or sponsoring, the Collaborative aims to
empower youth as advocates for their own ideas and priorities in their
social and physical environments. All of these programs for youth are
unique, but each is committed to:
- Expanding opportunities for
young people
- Instilling a sense of hope
- Teaching critical thought
- Providing alternative ways of
learning and expression
- Encouraging the imagination
of better conditions in the built, natural and
cultural environments
- Helping children value their
relationships with each other and the community
- Teaching skills necessary to
transform ideas into action
Members of this collaborative support
each other by sharing resources, fellowship, networking
and fostering partnerships. Through the work and
collaborations, the members hope young people will
recognize and enjoy the wonderful aspects of environments
and feel confident advocating for them throughout
their lives.
